William R. Chambers' Obituary
William Ray "Bill" Chambers was born on September 11, 1938 in Phoenix, AZ and left his earthy body peacefully on June 13, 2019 in Amarillo, TX.
The son of Raymond and Evelyn "Boots" Chambers, Bill graduated from Tolleson Union High School. He then went on to serve on Project Blue Book in the United States Air Force receiving his honorable discharge in 1959. As a competitive rodeo cowboy his travels led him to Guymon, OK; where he met his first love Virgie Mallard. After leaving the rodeo circuit, he continued his travels as a truck driver which led him back to Phoenix. Later in his life he was introduced to, Lauren "Laurie" Ball, his long lasting love of 37 years.
Bill climbed his way to director level while selling memberships for Prepaid Legal, now Legal Shield. He had an impressive social presence which required him to have and wear many different hats. He was recognized as Dedicated Area Governor in 1988 and 1989 for Toastmasters International. Bill served on OCJ Kids board of directors for many years, w
orking with churches in the valley to help support at risk youth living in group foster homes
.
"Taking the youth to their overnight camp and riding horses in Prescott, Arizona" was one of Bill's most treasured experiences.
Bill shared the big screen with popular actors in the 2015 movie Deadly Sanctuary and was featured in the music video Counting Down to Sunset.
He is preceded in death by his parents, great granddaughter, Julia, and Laurie.
Survivors include: daughter Melonie Sherrie Shaffer and husband Brian of Borger, TX; grandchildren, Tabetha Christian of Chickasha, OK, Tyler Christian of Guymon, OK, and Sharayah Carpenter of Amarillo, TX and great grandson, Kenneth "Kenny" Christian.
Graveside services will be held
Monday morning
, June 17, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, OK. Services are under the care of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill's honor to
