Obituary

Wanda Olive (Hicks) Shores, 102, longtime area teacher passed away Monday evening, March 23, 2020 at the Minneola Long Term Care Center in Minneola, Kansas.

The daughter of Alna Brice and Olive May (Upshaw) Hicks, Wanda was born May 16, 1917 in Texas County, Oklahoma near Hough. Wanda graduated from Goodwell High School and then attended Panhandle A&M College where she earned her teaching degree.

Wanda and Paul Shores were married and they had three children. Wanda taught school in Guymon and Kismet, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters: Doris Delano, Deloris Fowler and Florence Hicks; and four brothers: Gifford, Kenneth, Johnnie and Calvin Hicks.

Survivors include her three children: Donna Sue Borth and husband, Richard of Minneola, Kansas, Alvin Wayne Shores and wife, Julie of Navasota, Texas, and Dana Pauline Thomas and husband, Larry of Scottsboro, Alabama; six grandchildren: Debbie Sidebottom, Stephanie Hampton, Jeff Shores, Brent Shores, Courtney Thomas and Colton Thomas; along with her great grandchildren and brother, Merl Hicks of Hough, Oklahoma.

Family graveside services were conducted Thursday, March 26th at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. A public Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date and announced by the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.
