Wanda Gayle Grider, 88, longtime Guymon resident passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Heritage Community Manor surrounded by her loving family.
Wanda was born December 28, 1928 to Forrest and Marguerite Pieratt of Gate, Oklahoma. The family moved to Guymon in 1942.
She married Carl Moore in 1947 and had two children, Jerry and Terry Moore. Carl passed away in 1953. She married Forrest Grider on December 3, 1960. He preceded her in death on August 26, 2005.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Bret Grider, on January 4, 1995; four brothers: Kelly Pieratt, Bobby Pieratt, Billy Pieratt and Gary Pieratt; four sisters: Darlene Marie Pieratt, Judy Karen Pieratt, Jeanne Doyle and JoAnne Harris and both of her parents.
Wanda began working at Glen Reck Drug in Guymon at the age of 16 and worked for 19 years until the birth of her third son, Michael Bret Grider. She was a homemaker and member of the First Christian Church. Forrest and Wanda were huge supporters of the Special Olympics of Oklahoma because their son Bret competed every year. They were rewarded for their commitment by being chosen as Special Olympics Family of the Year for Oklahoma in 1992 and were featured in the Daily Oklahoman and recognized at the Special Olympics State Tournament in Stillwater, Oklahoma for this accomplishment.
Survivors include two sons: Jerry Dean Moore and wife, Kathleen, and Terry Mack Moore and wife, Becky all of Guymon. Survivors also include two sisters: Judy Watson and husband, John of Eldorado, Kansas and Kay Morrison and husband, Bill of Guymon, and one brother, Jimmy Pieratt and his wife, Oleta of Edmond, Oklahoma. She is also survived by six granddaughters: Rhonda Gossett and husband, Darren of Edmond, Oklahoma, Tera Gabel and husband, Sean of Melissa, Texas, Jera Evans and husband, Shane of Guymon, Andrea Miller and husband, Curtis of Guymon, Desiree Cashman and husband, Zac of Norman, Oklahoma, Sheena DeJoseph and husband, Dominic of Guymon. Survivors also include 10 great-children: Kambri and Kyla Gabel, Chandler and Macauly Evans, Zackary Gossett, Teagan and Fallyn Farmer, Brynlee Cashman, and Jase and Arya DeJoseph.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday morning, October 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Rev. Larry Watson, pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
Memorials in memory of Wanda may be given to the Panhandle Area Sheltered Workshop or the Guymon First Christian Church. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
