Stanley Tyler Latham, 92, lifelong Guymon resident and businessman passed away Thursday morning, May 28, 2020 at the Heritage Community Manor.
The son of Louis and Mary (Tyler) Latham, he was born February 20, 1928 in Guymon, Oklahoma only 2 hours after his wife of 67 years, Geraldine McDonald was born. Tyler always joked that he "married an older woman".
Tyler attended the Guymon school system, graduating with the Class of 1946. He then attended college at Western State in Gunnison, Colorado, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater and Panhandle A&M College in Goodwell.
Tyler and Geraldine Rae McDonald were united in marriage on April 17, 1949 at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. Tyler and Gerry were blessed with two children, Louis Edward Latham, II and Elizabeth "Beth" Latham Fountain. Tyler worked for Southwestern Public Service, was manager of the Broadway Hotel, served as Justice of the Peace for Texas County, and owned/operated their downtown business, Latham Hallmark until 1978, when he retired. Following retirement, they made many special memories at the cabin they built in Angel Fire, NM. Tyler was a member of the Guymon First Presbyterian Church. He was also active in Rotary, the Salvation Army, and the Guymon Community Theater, where he received the "Best Actor" award in 1994 for his role in "On Golden Pond" alongside Donita Hughes.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Gerry Latham on February 12, 2017; one sister, Mary Lou Peppers; and brother-in-law, Zane Bruce McDonald.
Survivors include his son, Louis Latham and wife, Sandy of Guymon and their children, Erin Haxton and husband, Robbie of Bartlesville, OK, Benjamin Latham of Moore, OK and Stephen Latham of Austin, TX; one daughter, Beth Fountain and husband, Emery of Norman, Oklahoma and his children: Lauren Gragg and Eric Fountain, both of Oklahoma City; sister-in-law, Dorothy McDonald of Northridge, CA; nieces and nephews: Joyce Field of Guymon, Mima Hale (Rex) of Guymon, Angie Hoover (Danny) of Pampa, TX, Bruce C. McDonald (Chris) of Northridge, CA, Debbie McDonald of Northridge, CA and Debbie Peppers of Houston, TX.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Saturday morning, May 30th at 10:00 a.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Rev. Carol LaMar, pastor of the Panhandle Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiating. There will be a time of viewing at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Tyler's name be made to a favorite charity. Memorials will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
