Tony Chris Smith, 70, passed away May 11, 2026 in Amarillo, Texas.  He was born December 24, 1955 in Benkelman, Nebraska to Marsha and Lyle Smith.  He graduated High School in Goodland, Kansas in 1974.  In 1985 he married Christine Overton (Tina) who survives him.

He lived a life full of experiences and accomplishments taking to heart a famous Teddy Roosevelt quote that began: "Far better it is to dare mighty things . . . " Tony dared to view life as a challenge and he met it with vigor.

Tony was an Eagle Scout, he rodeo'd in high school and college, a black belt in ju-jitsu and hanshi (master) over several black belts he instructed, a bounty hunter who traveled from coast to coast apprehending fugitives and recounted his stories in his own published book, he built his own house by hand north of Guymon where he raised his three sons.   Much of his life was devoted to them.  Whether it was camping, horseback riding, hunting, motorcycle riding, skiing, or numerous other endeavors he called "professional adventuring" he spent a lot of his time sharing these experiences with his sons.

Tony along with his wife Tina also successfully built and ran a local bail bonds business that Tina still manages today.  He earned his pilot's license and flew his own plane even landing on his own property in the dirt one day just to do it.  He was an accomplished farrier and blacksmith.  He was baptized in the Jordan River in 1985 in the country of Israel, dying with Christ and rising to new life as a Christian.

He is preceded in death by his father Lyle Smith.  He is survived by his wife Tina; sons Taos and fiancée Jade Welch and his children Cordelia, Stirling, and Ryker and their mother Dasha Smith of Guymon, OK; Tucson and Heather Smith and child Hartley of Vega, TX; Tekoa and Brooke Smith and children Colt and Charlotte of Guymon, OK. Mother Marsha Smith and sister Joni Smith and her husband John Lopez of Perham, MN; and sister Sheila Cunningham and husband Douglas.  Tony also had numerous close friends who were there for him and Tina the last few years.

Visitation will be Thursday, May 14, with family greeting between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Friday morning, May 15th at 10:00 a.m. at the Hardesty High School Auditorium with Bill Newman officiating.  Interment will follow at the Hartville Cemetery, SE of Hardesty.
