Simon Guerra, 91,  fifty year resident of Guymon passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 7, 2021 in Arlington, Texas surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Ignacio Guerra and Incarnacion Rodriguez, he was born February 20, 1930 in Santa Ana, Chihuahua, Mexico.

Simon and Beatriz Gonzales were united in marriage on February 19, 1956.

Simon was a hardworking salt of the earth man with great aspirations.  When he arrived to the US in 1945 at age 15, he worked as a ranch hand.  In addition to ranching and farming work, Simon worked in the meat packing industry and as a feed yard mechanic until retiring.

Simon was most grateful to have the opportunity with his true calling in life and faith as a Permanent Catholic Deacon.  He was part of the 1st Permanent Deacon Class of Oklahoma, receiving his ordination on November 8, 1983 and served faithfully with this ministry until his retirement in 2008 due to health.  He was a member of Knights of Columbus, where he was honored as Grand Knight (Oklahoma) in 1983 as well as being a 4th degree Knight.  He was very active in the Cursillo movement (Cursillo's, Ultreya's) from 1972 until 2008; living his 1st Cursillo in 1972 in Lubbock, Texas.  In addition to his vocational responsibilities and activities with St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Simon enjoyed spending his free time songwriting and playing the guitar and accordion with friends and family.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a car mechanic aficionado as well as being a builder of all trades.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Peter Paul Guerra in 1985.

Survivors include his loving wife of over 67 years, Beatriz Guerra; one daughter, Mary England and husband, Larry of Arlington, Texas; four sons:  Louis Guerra and wife, Kim of Guymon, James Guerra and wife, Darla of Little Elm, Texas, Joe Guerra and significant other, Donna Havens of Arlington, Texas and Lupe Guerra of Guymon; seven grandchildren: Ashley Trotter, Sydni Maurer, Olivia Guerra, Peter Joseph Guerra, Delaynee Marie Guerra, Jaidyn Guerra, and Chris Havens; great grandchildren: Hope Alira Sofia Maurer, Samuel James Maurer and Braydon Trotter; two sisters: Basilisa Miranda and Lucita Guerra; one brother, Tibursio Guerra and wife, Tola; and his "adopted" son and family, John Hill and wife, Jennie and children, Shadden and Sutter of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Rosary will be recited Friday evening, December 10th at 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church.  Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday afternoon, December 11th at 1:00 p.m. also at St. Peter's with Archbishop Paul Coakley and Father Christopher Brashears officiating.  Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery.  Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

Simon leaves a legacy of friendship, loyalty, and love.  He will be profoundly missed.
