Sean Evers Phelps, 38, the son of Gail Blackwelder and James Phelps, was born the youngest of five on March 19, 1987 in Garden City, Kansas.  He passed this life at 6:01 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Integris Health Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Sean graduated in 2005 while attending Oklahoma Job Corps in Guthrie, Oklahoma.  He attended grade school in Medford, Oregon and Hooker, Oklahoma, his junior high schooling was also in Hooker.  Sean loved sports - baseball, football, track and boxing - he participated and loved watching.  Swimming was one of his favorites; one summer while swimming at the Hooker pool, Sean was showing off jumping backwards off the edge, misjudged a jump and split the entire back of his head wide open.  He enjoyed motorcycles from a young age thru the last years of his life.  He loved animals and the American Pit Bull Terrier was his favorite dog breed.  Sean had pet rats, hamsters, and a hedgehog while growing up.  He once picked up and rehomed a baby horned owl he found in the barn at the family farm.

Sean disliked bullies and always stood up for the underdog.  He loved children and it didn't matter whose they were, he loved and protected them if he was around.

Sean asked Jesus into his life at six years of age in Oregon.  He reaffirmed that statement of faith when he became involved in a prison praise group and sang lead on several songs played by the praise band.

From Sean's early teen years until his death he battled addiction that cost him dearly - his family, his personal relationships and some of his friends.  While some maintained contact, many could not and would not.

Sean has a smile that could light up a room.  He had the gift of gab and rarely met a stranger. He could make a person so angry and have them laughing the next minute.  Those that spent the most time with Sean the past six weeks said he kept them laughing.  His dialysis nurse said everyone looked forward to Sean's chair time days.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Ulah Mae Blackwelder, and Larry and Lorene Lamb; uncles Jerry Phelps, Bruce and Albert Blackwelder, his aunt, Carolyn Blackwelder and cousin, Bettina Bryant.

Sean is survived by his parents, Gail and James Phelps of Liberal, Kansas; two older sisters, Chandra and Scott Case, Kelly and Ben Blackwelder; two older brothers, Codie and Amy Phelps and Calab and Bridget Phelps; nieces and nephews, Kitrina and Kyle Taylor, Shae and Noah Snyder, Kane and Kailen Case, Kyron and Alaina Case, Kohl & Mary Case, Wyatt and Levi Phelps, Emeree, Ellesyn and Everly Phelps, and Ryan McMurtry; great nephews, Breightyn and Kellin Case, Weston Snider; great niece, Laney Case, and aunt Renee Phelps along with a host of other cousins, family, friends and extended family.

Sean will be missed by many.  He lived hard, loved hard and died hard.  He pushed everything to the maximum limit to the very end.

Memorial services will be Friday October 31, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Hooker First Baptist Church with Pastor Mike McReynolds and Rev. Sid Prater, Liberal Fellowship Baptist officiating.  The family suggest memorials be given to Loving Paws Dog Rescue.  Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
