Hooker
Sadie (Garcia) Fief, of Hooker, Oklahoma, died peacefully on April 20, 2023 at the age of 93 at
the Beaver County Nursing Home in Beaver, Oklahoma. She was born June 1, 1929 in Hooker, Oklahoma to Geronimo and Leticia Garcia. She had three brothers, Moises, Emilio and Marcus
and a sister, Ruby Fast.
Sadie was a lifelong devout member of the Catholic Church. She attended St. Ann's Catholic
School in Tucumcari, New Mexico where she was taught by several Catholic Sisters who made a
deep impact on her faith. She graduated from Hooker High School with the class of 1948 and
then attended nursing school at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas. She married Jack
Rogers on February 4, 1950 in Clovis, New Mexico. They had four children, Cynthia, Linda,
Jack and Henry.
In 1964, she moved back to Hooker and was employed as a teller at the First
National Bank and later as the office manager at Herb's Electric for nearly a decade.
On January 15, 1971, Sadie married Max Fief at the Sacred Heart Church in Hooker. Together, they enjoyed travelling, spending time with their grandchildren and volunteering in the church. They were instrumental in the 1980 construction of the new Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Sadie served as the new church's first Treasurer and Max served as the President and Building Chairman. They traveled to Spain, France, Italy and Medjugorje located in present-day Bosnia�Herzegovina, a pilgrimage site based on apparitions of the Virgin Mary. When Max developed Alzheimer's, he moved to the Beaver County Nursing Home and Sadie lovingly cared for him until his death in 2006.
In 2014, Sadie moved to Brookdale Assisted Living in Liberal, Kansas and was crowned
Valentine Queen in 2015. In November 2021, she moved to the Beaver County Nursing Home in
Beaver, Oklahoma.Sadie was an avid genealogist and carefully traced her ancestral roots back to Llerena, Spain in
the Extremadura Region, finding ties to the 15th century Spanish crown. She was a proud heir of
the Atrisco Land Grant near Albuquerque, New Mexico. She supported numerous organizations and charities including the Alzheimer's Association, the Knights of Columbus, Red Cloud Indian School and countless other religious and veteran's
organizations. Sadie enjoyed watching the Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Law & Order. She loved word searches, corn dogs and strawberry milkshakes. She will be remembered as a woman of great devotion to her faith as well as a selfless mother, grandmother, wife and friend who always put other's needs before her own.
Sadie is preceded in death by her husband, Max; her beloved sons, Hank and Gary (twin to
Jack); her sister, Ruby Fast; her parents and brothers, and her great-granddaughter, Breklann.
Sadie is survived by her children Cynthia Bailey and her husband Lonnie of Gate, Oklahoma;
Linda Rogers and her husband John of Canton, Ohio; and Jack Rogers and his wife Susan of
Fraziers Bottom, West Virginia. Her grandchildren include Christopher Bailey and his wife
Susan and their children Ashley, Abigail, Carson and Amanda of Lakewood, Washington; Erin
Jones and her husband, Tom of Gate, Oklahoma; Micah Bailey and his wife Kristyn and their
children Piper, Micah, Tyson and Nora of Cardiff by the Sea, California; Shannon Gordan and
her husband Jason and their children Olivia, Gabriel and Camilla of Chula Vista, California;
Michael LaForgia and his wife Cara Fitzpatrick and their children Liv, Alexander and Franklin of
New York City; Elizabeth and her husband George and their child Oliver of Pittsburg,
Pennsylvania; Christina LaForgia Morse and her husband David of Cincinnati, Ohio; Joey
Rogers and Amber Poole of Conroe, Texas; Joshua Rogers and his wife Jewels Jewett and their
children Greyson and Skye of Woodland Park, Colorado; and Kristen McCargish and her
daughter Kezlee of Gillette, Wyoming. Sadie loved her nieces Marva Jean Herald and her
husband Danny of Hooker, Oklahoma and Patsy Fischer and her husband Tom of Liberal, Kansas
and numerous other family members and friends of the Hooker and Catholic community.
Visitation will be Friday, April 28th starting at 5:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hooker, Rosary services are set for 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, April 29th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart with Very Rev. Christopher Brashears, celebrant. Interment will follow in the Hooker Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to may be made in Sadie's memory to the Red Cloud Indian School or the Alzheimer's Association. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942. Friends can sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
