Obituary

Ron Murphey, 68, of Texhoma passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

The son of Lloyd and Marguerite Esther (Bivins) Murphey, Ronald Scott Murphey was born June 13, 1948 in Syracuse, Kansas. Ron was raised near Cunningham, Kansas where he attended Cunningham school system graduating with the Class of 1966.

Ron attended Pratt Community College before transferring to Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, receiving his BS degree in HPER. He obtained his Masters degree in Educational Administration from Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva.

Ron and Vickie Luvell Ellison were married on May 29, 1970. She preceded him in death in July 1980. Ron and Diane Mathers were married on January 1, 1982. Ron served in the U.S. Army Reserves and was a member of the Texhoma United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the OK Coaches Association and the OK Basketball Coaches Association.

Mr. Murphey was a devoted basketball coach and administrator, serving at Felt from 1971 to 1980, Texhoma from 1980 to 2000, at Plainview from 2001 to 2011 and then again at Felt in 2014 before his retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Vickie; one sister, Anita Murphey and one brother, Bill Murphey.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Murphey of the home; their six children, 18 grandchildren and one great granddaughter: Sheri (Dennis) Alber and children, Ashley & Alexandra of Holdrege, Nebraska; Cindi (Victor) Trevino and children, Erica, Emily, Morgan & Payton, along with Ron's great granddaughter, Adeline of Groom, Texas; Dr. Shawn (Dr. Ryan) Scott and children Ty & Kory of Marlow, Oklahoma, Rhonda (Zach) Searcy and child, Lane of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Jerod (Julie) McDaniel and children, Jaci, Alex, Luke, Aven, Sienna & Esta of Texhoma, Oklahoma; and Crystal (Jesse) Mariscal and children, Jacob, Thomas & Matthew of Stratford, Texas; along with numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other family, friends and associates.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, September 17th at 3:00 p.m. at the Texhoma Gym in Texhoma, Oklahoma with Rev. Mike Enright, pastor of the Texhoma United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Texhoma Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.

In lieu of flowers, a scholarship has been established to benefit a Felt or Texhoma student through the OPSU Foundation. Memorials should be made to the OPSU Foundation and will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942. Viewing will be at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friends can also sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
