Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we share that our dad, Rocky Edwin Garcia, Sr., passed away on April 8, 2025, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, at the young age of 58-years. While we mourn Dad's loss and work to accept his unfathomable absence moving forward, we also feel immense gratitude and pride at all the love he gave us – an everlasting love that we will continue to carry and grow and share forever and beyond.

Dad was born on April 19, 1966, to Lynda and Pete Garcia in Guymon, Oklahoma. He immediately became his big brother Pete's sidekick, and they deeply loved each other through all the mayhem of their youth. An insufferable mama's boy, Dad joins our Grandma Lynda and Grandpa Pete in their eternal resting place. While he joins them too soon, we are comforted by the knowledge that Grandma is most certainly caring and fussing over him now as she did when they were both here. Yes, Heaven is a party right now, and, Dad is the life of that party. He is overjoyed to be reunited with not only his mom and dad, but, the far too many family members that preceded him in death, including his adopted brother Darryl Johnson; his little brother Richard Garcia; his brother-from-another-mother Mike Garcia; cousin Donnie Bence; Grandma Lola; and, the many, many cousins, uncles, and aunts that we've all said goodbye to over the years.

Named after the famous boxer Rocky Marciano, Dad was a formidable and award-winning boxer when he was young, too. Trained by his dad Pete, Dad traveled and competed all over the country alongside his little brother Richard and a small cohort of friends. He'd tell you he was good, and, given all the scuffles he got into well after he hung up his gloves, we believe him.

Dad graduated from Guymon High School in 1984, and spent the next several years as a soldier in the US Army. He was stationed in Europe and South America at various points during his service, and deeply cherished those experiences. The Army trained him in automotive mechanics, and he turned that training into his profession. Dad was immensely proud of his military service, a forever-soldier that stayed true to the edict "once a soldier, always a soldier."

A glutton for punishment, Dad was a life-long and avid Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved to boisterously curse at the Cowboys every time they failed him. Which, was every time they played…Every. Single. Time.

Rocky became a dad on November 1, 1990, when Lorraine Maria Garcia was born; Jenae Dawn Coleman née Garcia followed shortly after on August 25, 1992; and, Rocky Edwin Garcia, Jr. completed our family on January 30, 2002. Following our parent's divorce in 2006, Dad's youngest daughter, Rosella Lynn Garcia Pfiester, was born on January 22, 2011.

A true poet and rolling stone, it's impossible to name all the people and places that Dad touched – he resided in Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas over the course of his life.

In the last decade alone, he made friends and family in Pampa, Odessa, Mission, McAllen, Austin, and, finally, in Santa Fe, NM. A gifted people-person, Dad never met a stranger, and delighted in oversharing with everyone he met.

Dad can count on a long list of people to keep his memory alive – Lorraine Garcia and her husband Max Lars; Jenae Coleman, husband Jayson, and their three daughters, Madelyn, Allison, and Gemma; Rocky Garcia Jr. and his wife, Joelle; Rosella Pfeister; his big brother Pete Garcia; his second mama Hope Garcia; a long list of Garcias, Roybals, Royvals, Murrays, Ramirezes, Kerbos, Adairs, and too many friends to count.

At ease, Dad. We've got it from here.  A celebration of Rocky's life will be held Tuesday afternoon, April 15th at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Center, 2032 Hwy 64 with military honors provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard.  Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
