Richard L. Costner, 76, lifelong Guymon resident passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
The son of James Raymond and Helen Nadine (Metz) Costner, Richard Lee was born October 25, 1942 in Guymon. Richard attended the Guymon school system, graduating with the Class of 1960. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Guymon. He and Barbara Ann Bridgman were united in marriage on April 8, 1961 in Clayton, New Mexico.
Richard worked as a truck driver for Swift for several years. He also worked for the Guymon school system in maintenance, retiring in 1996. He was a retired Guymon volunteer firefighter and had a great love for fishing, being a property owner at Grand Lake for over 40 years. Richard also enjoyed car shows, but nothing compared to his love for his grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen Costner and one son, Rickey Lee Costner on January 9, 2015.
Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara Costner of the home; one son, James R. Costner and wife, Jeanine of Guymon; two daughters: Melinda Davila and husband, Gilbert of Liberal, Kansas and Brenda Costner of Guymon; nine grandchildren: Alex, Robert, Laura Jo, James, Justice, Travis, Morgan, Cody and Christina; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, November 3rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Chapel with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
