Raymond Rice, 77, longtime Guymon resident passed away Friday evening, December 11, 2020 at the Alliance Health Hospital in Woodward.

The son of Loyd Melvin and Emogene (Lay) Rice, Raymond Loyd was born August 16, 1943 in Vinton, Louisiana.  The family moved to Guymon from Peggs, Oklahoma when Raymond was young.  He attended the Guymon school system, graduating with the Class of 1961.

Raymond proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.  He attended Panhandle State University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Technology Education in 1969. He then attended Oklahoma State University where he earned a Master of Science in Technology Education in 1977.

Raymond and Cheryl Lynn Rhodes were united in marriage on June 25, 1965 at the First Christian Church in Guymon.  Mr. Rice taught welding at the Guymon High School for over 30 years, retiring in 2010.  He was an active member of the Guymon First Assembly of God and member of the Vocational Welding Association.

Raymond loved the Lord, his church, and his family very much.  He served as a deacon for many years at Guymon First Assembly of God.  Raymond had a servant's heart and was always helping people by mowing their lawns and doing whatever he could to help.  He loved going to coffee during the week with his "coffee drinking buddies."  It was the highlight of his day. When Raymond was in the hospital, the nurses said he was one of the nicest patients they had taken care of.  He was witnessing to them all.  The nurses said he was like their family while he was there.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters:  Melva Jean Shaffer, Vancy Elliott, and Sonia Bartz and brother, Roy Rice.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Rice of the home; three children: Stephen T. Rice and wife, Kimberly of Fredericksburg, Virginia, Chad Rice and wife, Margie of Guymon and Misty Parry and husband, Todd of Stillwater, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Aram, Cale, Tavin, Eric, Gunnar, Kamryn and Karis.

There will be a time of visitation on Monday, December 14th from 3:30 to 5:30 at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, December 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the Guymon First Assembly of God with Pastor George Kraft officiating.  A family graveside service will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery.  Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
