Peggy Hyer's Obituary
Marjorie Jean "Peggy" Hyer, 90, longtime Guymon resident, passed away Wednesday morning, June 21, 2017 at her home.
The daughter of Anna Elizabeth (Robinson) and Burton Floyd Fender, she was born December 11, 1926 in Thomas, Oklahoma. She attended school in Thomas, graduating in 1944. She graduated from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in 1947.
Peggy was united in marriage to Jack D. Hyer on June 1, 1950 in Thomas, Oklahoma. They made their home in Guymon, where Peggy pursued her nursing career and worked the family farm, while Jack served our country in the Korean War. Upon his return, they continued their life in farming. Peggy was known for her great cooking skills and delicious harvest meals.
She was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church for most of her life and recently became a member of the Panhandle Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two daughters: Linda Huddleston of Pampa, Texas and Leslie Wright of Waxahachie, Texas; two sons: Mark Hyer and wife, Jacque of Guymon and Neil Hyer and wife, Michelle of Guymon; five grandchildren: Kevin Huddleston of Pampa, Texas, Stacy Hext and husband, David of Pampa, Texas, Camron Hyer of Guymon, Landon Hyer and wife, Chelsey of Guymon and Cale Hyer of Stillwater, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren are Damien, Daven and Kaybree Hext of Pampa, Texas, Daehle and John Smith of Guymon, and Case and Charter Hyer of Guymon. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Charline White and many nieces and nephews.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister, Betty Fender, brother Burton Fender, brother-in-law Ralph "Bill" White, son-in-law Donald Huddleston and grandson, Brian Huddleston.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon, June 25th at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 310 NW 7th St, with Rev. Carol LaMar, pastor of the Panhandle Evangelical Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
The Hyer family will greet friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, June 24th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorials in memory of Peggy can be made to the Goodland Academy, a Presbyterian Children's Home in Hugo, OK. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
