Obituary

Ofelia Armendariz, 84, passed away Saturday evening, June 21, 2025 at her home in Guymon surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of Julio Hernández Castillo and Elvira Delgado Arellano, she was born October 10, 1940.  Ofelia Armendáriz was a mother, friend, and inspiration to all. She was strong, determined, and most importantly, a Godly woman. All were welcome at her door. Whether it be a dozen tamales or a spare room, her mission was to serve others.

After losing her husband Ascension in their home town of Hardesty on March 26, 1987, she was determined to get herself and her three young ones back on their feet. Because of her determination and the glory of God, she raised a successful family of five children, twelve grandchildren, and eleven great- grandchildren. Through her struggles, she continued to help other families stretching from Mexico to Oklahoma do the same. Many have come through her door, but none have left hungry.

She learned the importance of serving as a nurse in Juarez, as a nurse at Dunaway Manor, meeting new faces volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, and helping bring joy to new life at Hope Pregnancy Center.

She loved her family deeply. She also loved dancing at any chance, celebrating with family and friends, and traveling the numerous beaches of Mexico. She is recently preceded in passing by her best beach mate, her son-in-law, Mario Hernandez. Ofelia was a true beacon of light to all who knew her. Her memory will live on in her family and her many friends made along the years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Santos Armendáriz and eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her five children:  Tere Estrada and husband, Ricardo of El Paso, TX, Laura Hernandez of Chihuahua, MX, Guadalupe Armendáriz of Guymon, OK, José Armendáriz and wife, Eva of Cleveland, OH, Pedro Armendáriz and wife, Maribel of Las Cruces, NM; her grandchildren:  Mario Hernández & Belinda Ochoa, Gerardo Hernández & Yahaira Granillo, Francisco Hernández & Alejandra Rodríguez Mata, and Maico Hernández & Perla Sandoval all of Chihuahua, MX, Ricardo Estrada & Mónica Estrada and Morayma Font & Nelson Font all of El Paso, TX, Jaqueline Morales & Miquel Morales, Javier Armendariz & Ana Serna, and Sophia Armendariz & Justin James all of Guymon, OK, Lauren Armendariz, Aaron Armendariz and Alison Armendariz all of Las Cruces, NM.  Ofelia is also survived by her great grandchildren:  Mia, Luisa, Marito, Azul, Miguel, Fatima, and Camila Hernández all of Chihuahua, MX, Elian and Grecia Estrada both of El Paso, TX and Jocelyn and Israel Estrada both of Guymon, OK; sisters and brother:  Elvira Hernández, Carmen Hernández, Carlos Hernández, Maria Hernandez and Cecilia Hernandez; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
