Monty Lee Nelson, 74, lifelong Guymon resident passed away February 14, 2024 at St. David's Medical Center in Austin, Texas.
The son of Adam Andrew and Myrtle Marie (Pyle) Nelson, Monty was born March 28, 1949 in Liberal, Kansas. He was raised in Guymon, where he attended the Guymon school system graduating in 1967.
Monty worked for the City of Guymon for nearly 23 years as the City Building Inspector, retiring in March of 2010. Monty loved fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. Monty and Carla Diane Hall were united in marriage on July 15, 1995 in Taos, New Mexico. They were active members of the Point Rock Riders club. Carla preceded him in death on November 14, 2019.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Donald Nelson and three sisters: Alberta Jean Carter, Jewell Marie Johnstone and Beverly Joyce Peterson.
Survivors include his son, Erick Nelson and wife, Kristie of Guymon; one daughter, Amy Nelson of Neptune Beach, Florida; two grandsons: Payton Roybal and Rylee Nelson and great granddaughter, Hagen McCray Roybal, all of Guymon. Monty is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family, including his special niece and great-great niece, Dedra and Geoana Peterson of Guymon.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. at the Sunset Lane Baptist Church with Pastor David Moore and Terry Grice officiating. Burial will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery. There will be a time of viewing for friends and family at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home on Monday, February 19th from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
