Our dear mother and grandmother, Marynell Anita Johnson Carroll, was ushered into heaven by a beautiful angel on April 3, 2025, in Texhoma, Oklahoma—just weeks after being parted from her beloved husband of nearly 73 years, Lawrence Milton "Mitt" Carroll.

Marynell was born on August 4, 1933, in Cranfills Gap, Texas, to Otto and Ora Johnson. She was blessed to be the cherished little sister of her brother Merrill, who adored her. Of proud Norwegian heritage, Marynell grew up immersed in the traditions of her ancestors. She was baptized at the Rock Church and confirmed at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church—the country church at the Gap—where she also attended Sunday School and worshipped faithfully.

Marynell graduated early from Cranfills Gap School in 1950. She was a woman of many gifts: an accomplished pianist, talented artist, and skilled seamstress who later owned and operated her own custom drapery and blinds business, Carroll's Fashion Draperies. Her creativity and grace flowed through everything she did—from her elegant hand-sewn work to her lovingly decorated cakes.

She met Mitt Carroll on a blind date while he was living in Turnersville, and the two married on October 3, 1952, at St. Olaf's Lutheran Church. Their deep love was the foundation of a beautiful life together, raising their three children in the Texas Panhandle, and later settling in Texhoma.

Marynell shared her faith generously and joyfully. At Oslo Lutheran Church in Gruver, Texas, she taught Sunday School, sang alto in church specials, participated in Ladies Aid, and formed treasured lifelong friendships through Bible studies. After moving to Texhoma, she quickly became a cherished part of the First Christian Church community, where she and Mitt reaffirmed their faith through baptism. Her love for Jesus was evident to everyone she met, and she was always ready to witness to others with compassion and conviction.

A devoted homemaker, Marynell was also an exceptional Southern cook. She and Mitt tended a garden together, and she took pride in canning and preserving their harvest—always with family in mind. Her kitchen was a place of comfort, full of warmth, music, and love. Many wonderful celebrations were enjoyed around her table, where her family gathered to share not only meals but also laughter, joy, and love.

Her grandchildren will carry her memory forever—remembering her turtle-shaped pancakes, pretend doctor visits using thermometer buttons from Thanksgiving turkeys as "shots," and the sweet music of "Dropped My Dolly in the Dirt" on the piano. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and learning.

Marynell was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mitt Carroll; and her brother, Merrill Johnson.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses: Gary Carroll of Texhoma, OK; Gregg Carroll and his wife, Jill, of Cypress, TX; and Paula Carroll Pearson and her husband, Marc, of Guymon, OK. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Dr. Allison Long of Houston, TX; Riley Bryan of Bryan, TX; Paige Pearson of Guymon, OK; Ashley Carroll; and Miles Carroll. She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were touched by her kindness, creativity, and strong faith.

Marynell's life was a masterpiece of love, faith, and service. "Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her... Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." (Proverbs 31:28–29). We take comfort in knowing that she is joyfully reunited with Mitt and all who went before her, and we look forward to the day we'll be together again.
