Obituary

Dora Lucy Abernathy, 98, longtime area resident passed away Sunday morning, July 26, 2026 at the Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kanas with family by her side.

The daughter of Barney and Dora Lucy (Hogue) Jackson, Lucy was born December 20, 1927 in Texas County, Oklahoma.  She was raised on the family farm near Hardesty and attended the Guymon school system, graduating from Guymon High School.

Lucy and Robert Harrison Quesenbury were married on June 25, 1946.  They made their home in Guymon, where they raised their five children.  He preceded her in death on September 28, 1983.

Lucy was married to Richard Abernathy in 1985 and they made their home in San Angelo, Texas.  He passed away on April 27, 2003.  Following his death, Lucy returned to Guymon, where she was an active member of the Grace Southern Baptist Church and the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Memorial Hospital.

Lucy was a homemaker and deeply loved her kids and grandkids.  She also enjoyed spending her time playing marbles and dominos, cooking, walking and could always be found dancing.  She was also an excellent painter and leaves many beautiful paintings.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; five sisters: Mary Trent, Liz Karber, Billie Weatherby, Lucille Bergman and Lee Gibson; three children: Ken Quesenbury, Patti TeBeest and Jim Quesenbury; and three grandchildren: Robert Boyd Quesenbury, Marcus Sanchez and Maria Lyn Quesenbury.

Survivors include two daughters:  Pam Smith of Oklahoma City and Paula Stiffler of Guymon; son-in-law, Don TeBeest, Sr. of Amarillo; daughters-in-law: Cindy Quesenbury of Guymon and Gina Quesenbury of San Angelo; twelve grandchildren: Jimmy Quesenbury, Jr., Tracye Hollis, Donnie TeBeest, Jr., Tish Booth, Kenny Quesenbury, Jr., Amy Turner, Dustin Kesler, Toby Smith, Candi Mitchell, Bemon Chastine, Jr., Kirstie Henry and Keely Evans; along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday morning, July 28th at 10:00 a.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Chapel with Rev. Van Heckle officiating.  Burial will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.
