Obituary

Lela Eaton was born at home March 6, 1922 to Albert Earl and Lena Brenton. One of eleven children, Lela entered eternal life joining her siblings and parents August 30, 2026 at the age of 104.

Lela took great pride in her role as wife to the love of her life, Lonzo, spending over 70 years together. She loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family.

Her passions included baking delicious treats, especially apple dumplings, and spending hours outside working in the yard and flowerbeds.

Lela was a charter member of Valley Baptist Church in Bakersfield California. She was very active in various roles in the church from 1975 until the last few years. She was friendly and always greeted visitors, often later being told she was the first person they met .

Lela loved social gatherings and entertaining. She always had ideas that to some might be considered "kooky", but were always "so Lela". An example is the time her group of senior friends all came riding in on stick ponies when they arrived at a home for an outdoor dinner.

She is preceded in death by husband Lonzo Eaton in 2012, and their daughter, Shirley Eaton Ladehoff in June 2025 and son-in-law, Donie Ladehoff in August 2025. She is survived by their daughter, Trudy Eaton, granddaughters Dawn Perkins, Dorinda Kurtz, Amanda Lewandoski, nine great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Lela looked forward to joining Lonzo and family and friends in Heaven, and most importantly spending eternity with her Lord and Savior, Jesus. Her main prayer was always that others would also accept Him as their Savior.

Until a few days before her death, she also daily read her Bible, devotions from The Daily Bread, and worked her word search puzzles.

She will be missed by those who knew her and have memories of all the laughter and spunk she always had.

Visitation will be Friday evening, September 11th between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Saturday morning, September 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at Bunch - Roberts Chapel with Read Barby officiating. Interment will follow in the family plot in the Hooker Cemetery, Hooker, Oklahoma.
