Obituary

Larry E. Pickard, 87, of rural Hooker passed away Sunday afternoon, August 28, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Larry, affectionately known as "Pick", was born May 6, 1935 in Guymon, Oklahoma to Oral Clyde and Clara Mildred (Lening) Pickard.  Larry attended school in Guymon, graduating with the Class of 1953.  He devoted his life to Christ at the Foursquare Church when he was 4 years old.  He grew up playing football and riding horses.

Larry married the love of his life, Myrna Lea Elliott on October 28, 1956 in Hardesty, Oklahoma.  Together they raised their three children: Tony, Rick and Kelly.  Larry and his family moved to Hooker in 1961, where he worked in the petroleum industry as well as farming.  He was a hard worker and if he wasn't working, he wasn't happy.  Larry loved all animals, and they loved him in return.  He had a special passion for horses and enjoyed team penning and sorting for many years.  He loved riding and sharing his horses in his arena with his dear friends and family.  His wife, Myrna was always close by, running the show from the crow's nest.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oral Pickard and Clara Gerstner; daughter, Kelly Pickard and sister, Shirley Wheeler.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Myrna Pickard of the home; two sons:  Tony Pickard and Nancy Summers, and Rick Pickard all of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three brothers: Bob Pickard and wife, Carla of Italy, Texas; Steve Couch of Houston, Texas and Terry Couch and wife, Sherri of Springfield, Louisiana; four grandchildren:  Bobbie Pickard of Albuquerque, New Mexico, John Pickard of Irving, Texas, Brooke Pickard of Weatherford, Texas, and Lakin Pickard of Weatherford, Texas.
