Obituary

Larry Glenn Grounds, 75, lifelong area resident passed away Wednesday morning, August 19, 2026 at his home in Guymon surrounded by his loving family.

The son of Glenn and Vera Bertha (Oxley) Grounds, Larry was born June 27, 1951 in Guymon. He was raised in Hooker, where he attended the Hooker schools graduating with the HHS Class of 1969. Larry then entered the U.S. Air Force to serve his country.

Larry married the love of his life, Thyra Ann Wester on October 5, 1974 in Guymon following a short courtship. They made Guymon their home and Larry worked at Wirtz Lumber for 28 years, retiring in December 2024. His genuine kindness was shown to not only his customers, but anyone he encountered. Larry was a member of the Sunset Lane Baptist Church, the American Legion and a lifetime member of the Iron Thunder Motorcycle Club, which is now part of Priesthood Motorcycle Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Rhonda Critcher.

Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years and 10 months, Thrya Grounds of the home; two sons: David and Angela White of Amarillo, Texas and Joshua Grounds of Guymon; grandchildren: Rachel, Brianna and Haley White of Amarillo, Dawson Tivis of Liberal and Avery Clayton of Amarillo; great granddaughter, Persephone Joloy of Amarillo; sister, Carolyn Warren of Liberal; niece, Jennifer Wesley of Liberal; nephews, Eric & Wendy Keith of Hooker and Ryan Critcher of Guymon; great niece, Jessie Keith of Hooker; his mother-in-law, Ida Wester of Guymon; and brothers and sisters-in-law: Leon Wester of Louisiana, Sherri & Danny Brown of Burkburnett, TX, and Jerry & April Wester of Valentine, NE.

A viewing and visitation with family will be held Friday evening, August 21st from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Sunset Lane Baptist Church, 1515 N. Sunset Lane in Guymon. Funeral services with military honors will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Sunset Lane Baptist Church with Pastor David Moore officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date in the Hooker Cemetery.
