Keith Logan, 80, retired Oklahoma Highway Patrol State Trooper, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, August 11, 2016 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County.
The youngest child of John A. and Ruth E. (Burt) Logan, Ronald Keith Logan was born May 10, 1936 in Hollis, Oklahoma. Keith attended all 12 years of school at the Ron School, graduating with the Class of 1955. After graduation, Keith attended school and played baseball at West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas for two years, before returning home to help with the family farming operation.
Keith joined the U.S. Army in April 1957 and then served in the National Guard, receiving his honorable discharge in April 1964 as Staff Sergeant. In 1966, Keith was accepted as a trooper for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. He graduated from patrol school with the 21st Class and was assigned to Guymon. While there he met Donna Loughridge and they were married on May 31, 1968 in Hooker.
Keith served with the Highway Patrol in Guymon until 1973 when he transferred to the Aircraft Division in Laverne. He flew the Highway Patrol airplane working traffic and as a co-pilot for the governor for two and a half years, returning to Guymon in 1975 when he transferred to the Size and Weights Division, where he served until his retirement in 1991.
Keith was an active member of the Guymon First Christian Church, an avid supporter of the community and could always be found supporting his kids and grandkids in all of their sporting and schooling activities. Keith had the honor of serving as state president of the Oklahoma Elks Association in 1990-1991. He was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and American Legion. In 1988, Keith was honored as the Guymon Citizen of the Year for his various activities and volunteerism.
Keith was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Zoe Livingston; and four brothers, Duane, Carroll, Wilburt and Royce Logan.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Donna Logan of the home; three children: Steve Logan and wife, Dee of Texas City, Texas, Gwen Logan Sears and husband, Jay of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Brad Logan and wife, Shonda of Woodward, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Dakotah Logan and wife, Kami of Perryton, Texas, Braden Logan and Kaylyn Logan of Woodward and Ashlyn Sears and Logan Sears (who was born on Keith's 70th birthday) of Oklahoma City; one great grandson, Kaleb Logan; along with numerous in-laws, extended family and a host of friends and associates.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon, August 15th at 2:00 p.m. at the Guymon First Christian Church with Rev. Larry Watson and OHP Chaplain Sam Garner officiating. Interment with OHP Honors will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
