Obituary

Kay Darnell, 78, of Guymon passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at the Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.

The daughter of Wayne L and Margaret (Bringle) Thompson, Kay Lillian was born February 16, 1946 in Liberal, Kansas.  She was raised in Hooker where she attended Hooker schools, graduating with the HHS Class of 1964.

Kay moved to California and met her future husband, Kenneth Edward Darnell.  She and Ken were united in marriage on April 30, 1967 in N. Hollywood, California.  The family moved to the Oklahoma Panhandle from Saugus, California in 1985.  Kay was a loving homemaker and worked as a caregiver.

Kay was a 'Super Nana' to her cherished grandkids - as well as their friends and teammates.  When Kay wasn't busy attending her grandkids events, she enjoyed whizzing through crossword puzzles, watching gameshows and writing letters or calling others.  Her outpouring of love for people was so evident in the way she lived her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Ken on June 1, 2024, her parents and one granddaughter, Emily El-Amoudi.

Survivors include her daughter, Kim El-Amoudi of Guymon; her son that she gained through marriage, Hassan El-Amoudi of Guymon; her beloved grandchildren:  Adam El-Amoudi attending school in Denver, Colorado and his fiancée, Heidi Young of Tulsa and Lauren El-Amoudi attending school in Norman; her sister, Elaine and husband, Danny Ridge of Hooker; sisters-in-law, Lue and Bob Caldwell of San Antonio, Texas and Marilyn Darnell of San Luis Obispo, California; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
