Joye M. (Lollar) Hicks, 89, lifelong area resident went to her Heavenly home on Saturday afternoon, August 12, 2017 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.
One of thirteen children, Joye was born February 8, 1928 in Hooker, Oklahoma to John Benton and Mayme Ruth (Highley) Lollar. Joye was raised in Hooker, where she attended the Hooker school system and attended the Nazarene Church.
Joye and Calvin Hicks were married on October 27, 1946 in Jetmore, Kansas and to this union were born six children. They made their home on the family farm NW of Guymon, where Joye was actively involved in the farming, as well as being a devoted homemaker. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were the joys of her life. Joye was well known for her farm raised, fresh fried chicken and homemade cinnamon rolls. She was a member and taught Sunday school for many years at the Morning Star Methodist Church. Joye and Calvin enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Canada and most of the U.S.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Calvin Hicks; three sons: infant, Aaron, Lyndon and Dennis Hicks; two sons-in-law: Richard Wise and Phil Barbaree; two granddaughters: Mindi Wise and Jenna Hicks; one great granddaughter; two sisters: Irma Dixon and June Woods; and six brothers: infant, Earl, Wayne, Jack, James, Clayton and John Lollar.
Survivors include daughter, Gwen Barbaree of Tryon, Oklahoma, daughter, Rita Wise of Guymon and son, Noel Hicks and wife, Jean of Guymon; daughter-in-law, Pam Hicks of Guymon; seven grandchildren: Shawn Barbaree, Tracie Mansfield, Tim & Becky Hicks, Chad Hicks, Brock Wise & Gaby, Chelsea & Juan Calderon and Nathan Hicks; 10 great grandchildren; three sisters: Marie Hicks, Alice Hayden and Esther Parker; one brother, Byron Lollar; along with numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, August 19th at 2:00 p.m. at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon with Rev. Darryl Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
