Johnnie Dean Costner's Obituary
Johnnie D. Costner, the son of Clara Ines Eldridge Costner and James Melvin Costner, was born on October 16, 1923 in Guymon, Oklahoma. He passed away on October 24, 2016 at the age of 93.
Johnnie grew up in Guymon, attended Guymon High School, and later met the love of his life, Peggy Duke.They were married on February 13, 1943 and had two sons, James Olen and Gerald Ray.
John and Peggy loved collecting antiques, and they spent many weekends at auctions. They also enjoyed watching their grandsons play football for the Guymon Tigers. John was a past member of the Elks Lodge and the Mr. & Mrs. Garden Club. He was also a member of First Christian Church of Guymon. Johnnie was a World War II military veteran and received a medical discharge from the Marines.
Johnnie owned and operated Costner Welding and spent over forty years contracting with oil and gas companies. He was a master welder and took great pride in his work. After retiring in 1986, the Costners enjoyed traveling; they spent their winters in south Texas and summers in the Colorado Rockies or at their vacation home on Grand Lake in Oklahoma.
Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, his parents, Ines and Melvin, and three brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his sons and their wives, James (Jim) and Myrtle Costner of Guymon, OK and Gerald (Peewee) and Erma Costner of Beaver, OK; four grandchildren, Bruce Costner and wife Melissa (Guymon), Brian Costner and wife Mary (Beaver), Jerod Costner (San Francisco, CA), and Amy Costner-Lark and husband Stephen (Edmond, OK); five great-grandchildren, Talisha Coleman and her husband Tyson, Tyler Costner, TiffanyCostner, Tristan Pell and husband Larry, and Lara Grace Lark. He is also survived by one sister, Ruth Fox Fischer.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday morning, October 27th at 10 a.m. at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home in Guymon with Rev. Carol LaMar officiating. Interment will be a private family affair at Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, OK.
The Costner family request memorials to honor Johnnie be given to the Guymon First Christian Church. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
