Jo Ann Gift, 65, of Dumas, Texas, passed away Monday afternoon February 19, 2024, at the Baptist Saint Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, Texas.
The daughter of Donald Ray and Norma Nadine (Allen) Gift was born August 2, 1958, in Beaver, Oklahoma.
Jo Ann graduated as salutatorian from Balko High School with the Class of 1976; she attended OPSU in Goodwell, Oklahoma, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1980, and obtaining a Masters Degree from West Texas A&M University in Canyon, Texas. Jo Ann was a teacher and counselor for 43 years with Dumas Schools, retiring in December of 2023. Although Jo Ann never had biological children, she counted as her kids the thousands she helped and worked with over the years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Norma Gift, and a sister, Patricia Daves.
She is survived by four siblings, Donna Gift of Guymon, Rhonda Parker of Hooker, Susan Harrison and husband Russell, of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, and brother, Harold Gift and wife, Janet of Port Lavaca, Texas. Survivors also include nieces and nephews - Tori, Neal, Tyrel & Ebony, Jeremy & Misty, Zach & Monica, Seth & Lori, Breanna & Phil, Morgan & Jack, Ross, Cooper, and great nieces and nephews - Weston, Haylee, Jaxson, Jordyn, Trevor, Myra, Mershek, Malikhai, Adalei, Bentley, Taelor, Gavynn, Peyton, and her honorary family - Ronnie, Jade, Lyssa & Dillon, Liam, Austin, Rachel, Christy & Erich, Aleks & family and Rafe & family.
Visitation will be Friday evening, February 23rd between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, 122 NE 7th St. in Guymon, Oklahoma.
Memorial services will be Saturday morning, February 24th at 10:00 a.m. at Dumas High School Auditorium, 411 Miller Avenue, Dumas, Texas, with Rev. Darrell Wait, pastor of the Dumas First Christian Church officiating.
The graveside service will be Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the Bethany Cemetery in Beaver County, 2 miles east of Bryan's Corner, 1 mile north and ½ mile west with Erich Schaefer presiding.
Memorials in memory of Jo Ann may be given to the Medical Center League House of Amarillo or the Dumas Education Foundation. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
