Jerald "Jerry" L. Wadley Jr. 72, lifelong resident of Guymon passed away Friday afternoon, January 17, 2020 at his home with family at his side.
The son of Jerald Sr. and Ruth (Yarberry) Wadley, Jerry was born February 13, 1947 in Guymon, Oklahoma. Jerry attended Guymon Schools and graduated from Guymon High in 1965. Jerry then attended Panhandle State College in Goodwell, Oklahoma. He served seven years in the United States Army Reserves.
Jerry and June Rathke were united in marriage in Guymon on June 16, 1968 at Trinity Lutheran Church. He worked for Guymon Lumber and was a dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for a short time before becoming a police officer for the City of Guymon. For twenty-five years Jerry worked through the ranks and retired as Chief of Police of Guymon in 1997. As a pioneer in emergency medicine, Jerry was the first certified EMT in Guymon in 1975 and served as EMS Director for the ambulance service until 1997. Jerry began educating EMTs in the Panhandle by sharing his knowledge and passion for helping people. He was a founding member of the Guymon EMS and Texas County EMS Associations. He served on multiple Oklahoma EMS Boards and was a true and inspiring voice of local EMS in the State of Oklahoma. Jerry received his 30-year commendation from the National Registry of EMTs.
Jerry was passionate about serving his community. He was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church serving as sound technician. He had a great interest in the rebuilding of Lutherhaven Retreat Center in Knowles, Oklahoma. Forty-five years ago, Jerry began driving bus for Guymon Public School District. What started as a second job continued after his retirement from the police department. He was a long-standing member of the Guymon Lion's Club and Guymon Community Theatre. From director to janitor, Jerry worked tireless hours for several decades. His biggest passion was following his grandchildren in their sporting and school events.
He is preceded in death by both parents, Jerald and Ruth Wadley of Guymon; and one brother Vance Wadley of Long Beach, California.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-one years, June, of the home; two sons, Grant Wadley and wife Kimberly of Guymon and Justin Wadley and wife Terri of Grove, OK. Grandchildren: Landon Wadley of Guymon, Ashlyn Wadley of Minneapolis, MN, Braden Wadley of Norman, OK, Jordyn Wadley of Woodward, OK, Megan Wadley of Tulsa, OK, Hannah Lehr of Guymon, Chase Jones of Guymon, Matison Stiles of Kiowa, OK, Macy Jones of San Antonio, TX, Sarah Ingle of Edmond, OK and Jake Ingle of Colorado Springs, CO.
Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday morning, January 22, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon with Pastor Mark Wescoatt officiating.
