James W. King's Obituary
James "Jim" William King, 77, longtime resident of the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles, passed away Monday morning, April 9, 2018 at his home in Spearman, Texas.
The son of William Odie and Flossie Lee (Heard) King, he was born June 15, 1940 in Guymon. Jim started schools at Brown's Corner, a one-room schoolhouse close to the King Family Farm. He later attended Straight Grade School and graduated from the Hooker High School with the Class of 1958.
Jim was married to Joyce Gale Schlegel on March 30, 1968 in Westminster, Colorado. She preceded him in death on July 29, 2015.
Jim served in the United States Army. He worked as a truck driver for several companies including Safeway, Wilson & Wilson, Groendyke, and Yellow Freight. He retired in 2007 and was a proud member of the North American Teamsters Union. He was a member of the Straight Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce King; parents, William and Flossie King; one sister, Mary Ruth Ivey and two brothers, Frank Reed King and John Lee King.
Survivors include three daughters: Pamela King of Westminster, Colorado, Paula McCaslin of Spearman, Texas and Patricia Blush of Aiken, South Carolina. Survivors also include two brothers, Robert King and wife, Teresa and Ted King and wife, Patty all of rural Guymon; six grandchildren: Amber & Nick Brown, Amanda & Sean Durfey, Brady & Ka'Lisa McCaslin, Ashton Blush, Cassidy & Steven Abshire, and Terrell Schlegel, and five great grandchildren: Camden, Graysen and Trysten Brown, Everly Durfey and Hailea Burns.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, April 13th at 2:00 p.m. at the Morning Star United Methodist Church in Hough with Nick Brown, associate pastor of The Summit Church in Aubrey, Texas, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, April 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Straight Christian Church or Morning Star United Methodist Church of Hough. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
