Obituary

Jack Boyd , 77, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas. Jackie Wayne was born April 30, 1947, in Elk City, OK, to Margie (Lutz) and Cleatis. Jack grew up in Crawford, OK, graduating in 1965 from Crawford High School. He then attended trade school at Okmulgee where he earned an applied associate's degree in Boot and Saddle Making.

In 1969, Jack moved to Goodwell to cowboy in area feed yards. One fateful night a good friend set him up on a blind date that he didn't know about until they arrived at her house. That date would turn into a 55 year union. Within six short weeks of meeting, Jack and Kathy (Heard) were married January 1970, in the living room of the house where they currently live. Although he was a cowboy by birth, Jack became a farmer by marriage and began working for Kathy's parents on the Heard farm in 1972. Jack and Kathy became the primary operators of the farm in the mid 1980's and continue today.

Even though Jack became a farmer he always remained a cowboy at heart. Rodeos and horses were still a part of his everyday life. He was a long time supporter and volunteer of Guymon Pioneer Days with both the parade and rodeo. Often the out gate man during the rough stock, pickup driver for setting the barrel pattern, and chute help for the roping events he was a man of all abilities. He had a stature and look of a rough and tumble cowboy but we all know he was truly the kindest most patient person to all (except maybe a few). His love of horses was inherited by his daughter Jackie and has passed on to his granddaughter Teal. Dancing was also a favorite past time for Jack and Kathy and many memories were made as a family at dances with friends and extended family. Later in life, Jack and Kathy started attending the different senior citizen dances traveling from Guymon, to Beaver, to Hugoton, and beyond. They made a new group of friends who became "The Fun Bunch." He will be truly be missed by all.

Jack is survived by his wife Kathy of the home; daughter and granddaughter Jackie and Teal Francis of Hereford, TX; sister Lou Ann Bonser of Klamath Falls, OR; brother and sister-in-law Mike and Penny Boyd of Durham, OK; sister Tammy Dorton of Thayer, MO; and brother Gary Boyd of Florida; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Margie and Leonard McDaniel, Peg and Cleatis Boyd; son Robert Boyd; son-in-law Clay Francis; in-laws Mildred and O.R. Heard; brother-in-law Bill Bonser; and nephew Bill Bonser Jr.
