The son of Clovis Pervis and Mabel Kathryn (Young) McCutchen, William Herman McCutchen was born May 22, 1928 in Gould, Oklahoma. He attended school in Duke, Oklahoma and Wellington, Texas. Herman learned the shoe cobbler trade from his father at a young age and worked to help take care of the family.

Herman also loved motorcycles and antique cars, as well as classical music and the symphony. Herman was an active member of the Guymon First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for many years.
Herman and Betty enjoyed spending their retirement traveling and visiting grandchildren. Betty passed away in May 2017. Herman and Wanda Fischer were married on June 2, 2018 and enjoyed each other's companionship.
In addition to his wife Betty, he was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Roland "Rolie" McCutchen in 1972; sons-in-law, Tom Millican, Tony Byers; and two brothers, Jimmy and Billy Joe McCutchen.
