Helen Baker, 90, passed away Saturday morning, December 9, 2023 at her home in Guymon surrounded by her loving family.

Helen May (Skelley) Baker was born November 14, 1933 in Boise City, OK to George Calvin and Catherine Belle (May) Skelley, Helen attended Mineral School through the 7th grade and graduated from Boise City High School in 1951 as Valedictorian of her class.

Helen and Eugene Baker were married September 3, 1951 in Clayton, NM.  They established their first home in Columbia, SC when Gene was stationed in the Army.  To this union were born six children.

Helen was a homemaker then in 1971 she went to work as a bookkeeper for Hitch Cattle Co. for 32 years. After retirement Helen worked at her church, Panhandle Bible Center as secretary/bookkeeper, which she enjoyed very much.  Helen was a charter member of Business and Professional Women.  She also served as secretary of the organization for several years.  Helen enjoyed registering the Old Timers at Pioneer Days until her eyesight failed her.

Helen was a very talented seamstress making many garments for her family.  She also made many quilts and pillowcases for her family.  Helen also enjoyed hosting family dinners for her family.  Her family was together for many holidays and birthdays.

Helen was raised on the Skelley ranch northwest of Boise City near Kenton, OK.  She enjoyed helping her dad raise cattle and breaking horses as she grew up.  Helen accepted the Lord in her heart as a young wife and mother in the Methodist Church in Boise City, OK.  She was a faithful member of Panhandle Bible Center and Connection Church until her health failed her.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene of 59 years; and infant son, Duane George Baker; her parents; three sisters: Nell Chockley, Amelia Irlbeck, Kay Prather; son-in-law, Ron Eggers; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Helen is survived by one son, Darrell Baker and wife, Sally of Tucumcari, NM; four daughters: Darlene Hambleton of Guymon, Clarine Ellis and husband, Jim of Guymon, Pam Powell and Jeff Perry of Guymon, Shirley Eggers and Shane Hill of Turpin, OK; her 12 grandchildren: Kayleen Evans, Jeremy Baker, Jared Baker, Shana Hambleton Lemmings, Tammy DeSpain, Amanda Beasley, Tisha Kizziar, Stephen Keenan, Audri Edwards, Amber McClure, Jace Eggers and Payton Eggers; 32 great grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren; one brother, George Skelley of Six Mile, SC; one brother-in-law, Ray Baker and wife, Beverly of Felt, OK.  Helen is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and many friends.

The family will greet friends on Friday evening, December 15th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be Saturday morning, December 16th at 10:00 a.m. at Connection Church, 1901 N. Lelia with Jim Jamieson and Rev. Dr. Dallas McGlasson officiating.  Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. CST at the Kenton, OK Cemetery.
