Obituary

Geraldine Rae "Gerry" (McDonald) Latham, 88, long time Guymon resident passed away Sunday morning, February 12, 2017 at the Heritage Community in Guymon, where she and Tyler have lived for the past 6 months.

Born February 20, 1928, Geraldine was the daughter of Gerald Monroe and Lillie Rae (Archer) McDonald. She was born in Optima, OK, 2 hours before her husband of 67 years, Tyler Latham. Tyler's parents were waiting on the doctor to return to Guymon for their delivery. Tyler always joked that he "married an older woman".

Geraldine attended Guymon schools, where her favorite class was music. She sang in a trio with good friends, Mary Virginia (Waters) Bailey and Emma Jean (Shields) Frittz throughout school and for many special occasions afterwards. Geraldine graduated from Guymon High School in 1946, attended Colorado Women's College in Denver, CO for 2 years, returning to Guymon to work for Vincent Dale Law Office.

Geraldine and Stanley Tyler Latham were united in marriage on April 17, 1949 at the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. Gerry and Tyler were blessed with two children, Louis Edward Latham, II and Elizabeth "Beth" Latham Fountain.

Geraldine was active in the First Presbyterian Church, PEO, Bridge Club, No Man's Land Historical Society and many other community activities. She worked with Tyler in their downtown business of several years, Latham Hallmark. After selling the business, they spent many enjoyable years at the cabin they built in Angel Fire, NM. Some of their fondest memories were from trips taken with special friends, and then came their grandchildren, identical twins, Stephen and Ben, and Erin. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Zane Bruce McDonald.

Survivors include her loving husband, Tyler Latham of Guymon; one son, Louis Latham and wife, Sandy of Guymon and their children, Erin Haxton and husband, Robbie of Bartlesville, OK, Benjamin Latham of Moore, OK and Stephen Latham of Austin, TX; one daughter, Beth Fountain and husband, Emery of Norman, OK and his children, Lauren & Eric Fountain; and sister-in-law, Dorothy McDonald of Northridge, CA.

Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon, February 15th at 1:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon, with memorial services to follow at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Linda Sherry officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gerry's name can be given to the First Presbyterian Church or to a charity of choice. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942. Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
