George A. Smith, 89, lifelong area resident passed away Sunday evening, December 23, 2018 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.

The son of George Willis and Mary Alta (Remmel) Smith, George Allen Smith was born March 25, 1929 in Hardesty, Oklahoma. George grew up near Guymon and attended the Guymon High School graduating in 1947.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Philippine Sea. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Guymon.

George and Joy Harris were united in marriage on July 19, 1951 in Guymon at the Nazarene Church. George worked in the trucking industry. He was a gun enthusiast, as well as being a licensed gun smith. He also enjoyed fishing, as long as he didn't have to eat them.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Alta Mae Smith; and one son, Mike Smith on December 3, 2003.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Joy Smith of the home; two sons: Danny Smith and wife, Debbie of Enid, Oklahoma and Pat Smith and wife, Karla of Guymon; one sister, Willibelle Parham of Waverly, Iowa; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, December 28th at 2:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Chapel with Pastor Debbie Smith officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Services are under the care of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
