George F. Settles passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.
George was born on May 25, 1930 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. At the age of 15, he enlisted in the United States Army on January 24, 1946, indicating that his birth date was November 10, 1927. He served as a Fire-Fighter-Crash-Rescueman in the Army Air Corps which became the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force on February 15, 1949, with the rank of Corporal.
George and Ruth Mae Mullins were married on June 1, 1951. Ruth preceded George in death on June 10, 2007. George and Ruth lived in several states while he was employed by Cities Service Oil Company including Kansas, Texas and Oklahoma. In 1965, they settled in Guymon with their son, Monte. While in Guymon, George worked at several different jobs including in the oil field and landscaping. He retired from Adams Hardfacing Company.
After retirement, George and Ruth enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and making new friends.
George is survived by one son, Monte Settles of Pittsfield, Maine. Four grandchildren: Dustin (Leah) Settles of Olympia, Washington; Corey (Reggie) Duprey of Detroit, Michigan; Savannah (Nick) Delong of Newport, Maine; and Nick Settles of Newport, Maine. Five great grandchildren: Hunter, Aspen, Brayden, McKenzie and Bailey. George leaves his very special friends, Don and Glenda Gaither, who gave him a beautiful place to park his trailer and cared for him the last years of his life. He is also survived by many friends, caring neighbors, and his loyal and faithful dog, "Joe".
Private interment of cremains will be at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.
