Gayle
Gibson
Feb 26, 1933 — Aug 24, 2023
Guymon
Dr. Johnnie Gayle Gibson, 90, of Guymon OK, passed away into glory to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 24, 2023. He was born in Erick, OK on February 26, 1933.
Dr. Gayle attended Oklahoma State University. He and his identical twin brother, Darryle, graduated from Kansas City Dental School in 1960. They moved together to Guymon where they both practiced dentistry for almost 50 years retiring in 2009. Gayle's primary focus was orthodontics. He was a founder of the American Orthodontic Society. It was through dentistry that Gayle flourished in fulfilling his desire to love & help people. Gayle enjoyed dentistry, but it was the people he helped which fueled his passion.
Gayle was also passionate about his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This was evident in his devotion to his local Church, Grace Southern Baptist Church, where he was a charter member & served many years as a Deacon. Passions are revealed by what a person talks about, and Gayle's passion of Jesus, the Bible and his Church were always forefront in his discussions.
Gayle was also passionate about his family. He loved his first wife, Roberta Lortz Gibson, to whom he was married for 30 years. They were blessed with 5 children. Roberta passed away on November 24, 1984. He was then blessed with 38 years of marriage with his second wife, whom he loved dearly, Lynda Tyler Stewart. They enjoyed many years of gardening, especially growing cantaloupe, traveling the world, and being together as best friends.
Gayle was preceded in death by his parents Levi & Grace Gibson, his first wife Roberta Lortz Gibson, & his son John Steven Gibson.
Gayle is survived by his 5 children, Cynthia Hallford and husband David, Lynda Pettit and husband Jim, Robert Gibson and wife Deanna, Timothy Gibson and wife Julie, & Austin Stewart and wife Priscilla. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Gayle's family is so thankful for the love he had for them, the legacy of faith that he left them, and the sweet memories of times past. We all look forward to being together again in heaven with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held at Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home on Sunday, August 27 from 6-8 pm. Gayle's memorial service will be at Grace Southern Baptist Church, Monday afternoon, August 28 at 1 pm. The services will be conducted by his sons, Robert Gibson & Dr. Timothy Gibson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Missions Board (imb.org) or Samaritan's Purse and will be accepted at the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
