Garry Lynn Baker was born October 25, 1943 in Beaver, Oklahoma.  It was the only hospital in the panhandle and he was the only child of Thomas Jefferson Baker and Dessie Lee (Copp) Baker to be born in a hospital, as his siblings were all born at home.  His two sisters Doris Baker Nelson and Elois Baker Nowels and brother Richard Max Baker welcomed him home.

Garry attended Guymon Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1961.  He attended and graduated from North Eastern Oklahoma (NEO), then attended and graduated from Oklahoma State University (OSU) graduating with a BS in Animal Science.  His heart was always with the OSU Cowboys and he was an avid supporter win or lose.

Four days after his graduation he got his letter saying Uncle Sam wants you.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966, being honorably discharged in 1968.  His duty was in combat medicine but he kept being promoted to San Antonio, in the operating room as technician, to Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, and eventually being sent to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC for 1½ years.

He married Linda Hohweiler in 1966 and she spent the duty with him.  During this time the first of their four children was born.  Tracy Lynn Baker was born and spent the first year of his life in Washington, DC.  After being honorably discharged, the family moved back to Guymon and two years later Travis Max Baker was born.

Garry's job in Animal Health moved him to El Centro, California to open new offices there.  After three years there, the family moved to Amarillo, Texas.  He then returned to Guymon to open new offices and he became Regional Manager over seven offices, holding that job for 45 years before retiring.  During this time two daughters were born and welcomed by their big brothers, Tara De' Baker in 1976 and Tenae Dawn Baker in 1977.

Garry was a baseball coach for ten years with Kid's Inc.  He was loved by all the boys he coached.  He also loved horses, which he raised and raced for many years.  Cattle were also very important to him and his son Travis took over the Animal Health business and raising cattle.  Garry always loved getting in the pick-up and driving out in the pasture just to watch the cattle.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dessie; his two sisters, Doris and Elois, and brother Max; his oldest son Tracy Lynn and many other relatives.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Linda; his son Travis which was his right hand man and helper especially these last months.  Travis' wife Shannon and children, Tate, Tegan, Ty, Ashley and Ally Baker.  Tara and Sean O'Hare and children, Greyson and Finnley.  Tenae and Derek Dick and children, Travis, Addison and Cambree Dick.  Tracy's wife Susy and children, Kylee, T.J. (Tom), Kenya and Kyera; and two great grandchildren, Paisley and Hunter.  Garry also leaves behind many wonderful friends and family which someday he will see in Heaven.

Funeral services with military honors will be held Saturday afternoon, March 28th at 1:00 p.m. at the Goodwell Baptist Church, 203 College Ave. in Goodwell with Pastor Zane Newton officiating.
