Farris Maurice "Buddy" Cornelius, 90, passed away Sunday morning, May 18, 2025 at his home in Guymon surrounded by his loving family.
F.M. (Buddy) Cornelius was born June 23, 1934 to F.L. and Joe Cornelius in Borger, Texas. He came to know the Lord as his savior at the age of 13. He graduated from Dodson High School in 1952 and then attended Texas Tech University for one semester before returning to Dodson. In 1955 he began his 43 year career with Phillips Petroleum in Borger, Texas.
On June 17th, 1956 he married Sonja Clarice Bouck, the love of his life. In January of 1957 he was drafted to the US Army and served stateside. He and Sonja lived in New Jersey while he attended Electronics School, and from there they moved to Georgia where he was assigned to the Savannah River Atomic Energy plant. In 1959 he and Sonja returned to Borger. In the fall of that year, they moved to Dumas, Texas where he continued to work for Phillips as a mechanic. Here he served as a deacon at Calvary Baptist and coached Babe Ruth Baseball for 15 years. In 1962 his son, Brad was born followed by his daughters Jana in 1964 and Karla in 1969. He then transferred to Guymon in 1977 and later helped transition the company to GPM where he eventually retired in 1999 as a field supervisor for the entire region. He served as deacon at First Baptist Church. After his retirement he and Sonja enjoyed traveling to Lake City, Co., Branson, Mo. and South Tx.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Garnetta Roediger and her husband Orville, brother-in-law Jim Cunningham and nephews and niece Dennis, Terry, and Kim Roediger.
He is survived by his wife, Sonja Cornelius of the home, three children: Brad (Michele) Cornelius; Jana Bledsoe; and Karla (Randy) Stukey. Grandchildren Johnathan Bledsoe; Vanessa Coke, Leslie (Johnny) Barajas; Isaac Bledsoe, Erin (John) Glave; Emily (Jordan) Lashaway; Anna Stukey; Olivia Stukey and great-grandchildren Molli Theye, Amerson and Adalynde Barajas, Remington, Benjamin, and Maverick Glave, Gavin Bledsoe and Teigen Coke.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, May 21st at 10:00 a.m. at the Guymon First Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Carter and Pastor Derek Cox officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the Dodson, Texas Cemetery.
The Cornelius family will greet friends on Tuesday evening, May 20th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home.
