Fidedalis "Red" Chastine, 96, longtime Guymon resident, passed away Tuesday evening, February 24, 2026 at the Wheatridge Care Center in Liberal, Kansas, surrounded by his loving family.

Red was born the son of Cherokee Gann on May 24, 1929 on Killer Mountain south of Stilwell, Oklahoma.  His early years were spent living with his mother and grandparents on Killer Mountain.  He attended the rural school, North Greasy.  After his mother passed he attended the Seneca Indian School at Wyandotte, Oklahoma, and then Haskel Indian Institute in Lawrence, Kansas.

While still a teenager he went to Southeast Colorado to help with broomcorn harvest and then was hired by Gideon Thompson at Walsh, Colorado, to do farming and ranch work and to live in their home.  Gid & Pearl were like his parents and their son, Grandby, became his best friend for the rest of his life.

While living at Walsh he met and later married Velta Fae Beamon and they became parents to sons, Dennis Keith and Bemon Lee, and lived at Springfield, Colorado.  At Springfield he worked in a service station then in a body shop where he learned his life's trade.

After becoming single again he moved to Guymon, Oklahoma in 1959, and worked at different times for both the Ford Dealership and the Chevrolet Dealership and ran his own body shop for a time.

Red and Lavena Waugh were united in marriage on July 12, 1969 in Vinita, Oklahoma, where he worked for the Buick Dealership, returning to Guymon four years later.  Red was song leader and active member of the Guymon Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe & Katie Gann, his mother, Cherokee Gann and two sisters, Bertha Gayle and Katie Lee Roberts.

Survivors include his wife, Lavena of the home, two sons, Bemon Lee Chastine and wife, Marilyn of Hugoton, Kansas, and Dennis Keith Chastine and wife, Ellen of La Junta, Colorado, four grandchildren: Beman Lee Jr., Danica, Desiree, and Reygan, five nieces, great and great-great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be Friday afternoon, February 27, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chulio Cemetery, south of Stilwell, Oklahoma with Pastor John Hewett and Pastor D.J. McCarter officiating.

Memorial services will be Saturday afternoon March 7, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northridge Free Will Baptist Church in Guymon with Pastor Stacy Ross officiating.
