Emery D. Elliott, 87, lifelong area resident passed away Friday evening, March 27, 2020 at the Oklahoma Heart Hospital in Oklahoma City.

The son of Cecil Sherman and Iva Mae (Sutton) Elliott, Emery Dean was born September 26, 1932 on the family homestead in Texas County, Oklahoma east of Hardesty. Emery attended the Hardesty school system, graduating with the Class of 1951. He then attended Oklahoma A&M (Oklahoma State University) in Stillwater graduating in 1955 with a degree in Animal Husbandry.

Emery was married to Patricia "Patty" Good on September 20, 1953 in Seminole, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death on August 6, 2010. Emery and Ruth (Grove) Thompson were married on July 6, 2013 in Hooker.

Emery retired from Texas County District 3 in 2010. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and Gideon's International.
Emery owned the Dairy Kreem and Western Shop in Texhoma for many years.

He had a great love for watching his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids in any activity they were involved in.  Emery was a man that always had a story, saying, or joke to share as he loved visiting with people and making them laugh.  He was quite the horse trader and loved to dicker with his horse trading buddies.  A big part of his life was of ponies, wagons, and buggies. You could catch him participating many times in the Pioneer Days Parade and the Texhoma Fiesta Days Parade driving his team of ponies.

Most of all, though, Emery loved his Lord and Savior. He taught Sunday School at the Texhoma First Baptist Church for many years before moving to Hooker where he taught the Youth Sunday School at the Hooker Hispanic Church. It was very important to him to lift his family and friends in prayer every day.

In addition to his first wife, Patty he was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Iva Elliott and one brother, Doug Elliott.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth of the home in Hooker; three children: Shelly and husband, Bob Burgess of Hooker, Rocky Elliott and wife, Virginia of Texhoma and Andy Elliott of Texhoma; his three step-children: Ron Thompson and wife, Kim of Grass Valley, California, Rick Thompson and wife, Lisa of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Rasonya and husband, Larry Flynt of Turpin, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Shane, Andy Pat II, Craig, Austin, Casey, Lindsay and Amy; four step-grandchildren: Aubree, Casey, Ryan and Jordyn; ten great grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; his sister, Myrna and husband, Larry Pickard of Hooker; along with several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, March 31st at 2:00 p.m. at the Range Cemetery, SE of Hardesty. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
