Eddie C.
Stewart
Jun 26, 1934 — Dec 27, 2024
Eddie Cadain Stewart was born June 26, 1934 in Elmer, OK. He passed peacefully at his home in Guymon, OK on December 27, 2024 at the age of 90.
Eddie graduated from Guymon High School in 1952. He played high school baseball and American Legion baseball. After graduating high school he was employed by Northern Natural Gas Co. for 45 years.
Eddie and Nancy Grice were united in marriage on March 12, 1954 and enjoyed 59 years together until her death in July of 2013. To this union were born three children: Baron, Vance and Daina.
Eddie was a man of many talents. While working for the gas company he learned pipe welding. With his welding skill he worked weekends building windmill towers, cattle pens, metal buildings and knives. Eddie loved to do wood carving with his pocketknife. Some of his carvings included a chess set. Later he began carving walking canes. With his imagination, some of these canes had very unique faces carved in them - he was very proud of his canes. Eddie also drove a cattle truck for his father-in-law, Roaten Grice on sale day.
Eddie was a Christian and attended the Body of Christ. In the mid 1960's he was asked to preach at the Keyes Church of Christ until they could find a full-time preacher. This temporary preaching job lasted 4 years. Because of his love for God and his desire to lead others to Christ, he had many Bible Studies and baptized several into Christ.
After his wife, Nancy passed away he found great pleasure in being a substitute teacher for the Guymon Elementary School system. He dearly loved being with the kids. Even on the days that he was not scheduled to teach, he would still get up early and get ready to go in case there was that last minute call to come in. Several times in public one of the young students would come running up to him yelling "Hi Mr. Eddie" and give him a big hug. In Eddie's later years he enjoyed attending the Senior Citizens dances, traveling and seeing places with his Special Lady Friend, Estie Grubbs.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, W.E. and Lola Mae (Lanning) Stewart; wife, Nancy Gayle (Grice) Stewart; daughter, Daina Buck; and two brothers: Bill Stewart and wife, Peggy and Gerald Stewart and wife, Linda.
He is survived by his two sons: Baron Stewart and Vance Stewart; son-in-law, Rod Buck; five grandchildren: Jeramie and O.J. Herrera, Jacob and Chelsey Dunham, Jessi and Eryk Veleta, Holly and Eric Mikles, and Kelly and Nick Fuerstenau; 11 great grandchildren: Seth Mayer, Ryder and Oakley Herrera, Harley, June and Lucy Dunham, Jax Mikles, Lydia and Clint Fuerstenau and Izekiel and Zyla Veleta; and his sister, Sharon Phillips.
There will be a viewing and time of visitation with the family on Thursday evening, January 2, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home. A private family graveside service will be held at the Elmhurst Cemetery.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Eddie's name to a favorite local animal rescue, as Eddie had a big heart for animals. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942. Friends can sign the online guestbook and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
