Dorothy
Mcdonald
Jul 9, 1935 — May 30, 2023
Dorothy Lee McDonald (Dottie) passed away on Memorial Day of 2023 in Granada Hills, California.
She was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, the daughter of Howard E and Mildred L Curtis (Jackson) formally of Guymon. Dottie spent much time in Guymon, Oklahoma where she met her future husband, Zane Bruce. Zane and Dottie, along with their children Debra and Bruce, moved to California where they would spend the majority of their lives. Annual trips to Guymon with the family provided many adventures, and ties to family.
Dottie was an active and charter member of her church Saint Stephens Presbyterian in Chatsworth, California, where she volunteered in the office and kitchen as well as served on many prayer teams. She also volunteered for FISH of Chatsworth that supported many families with their basic needs, and drove people to various appointments all over the San Fernando Valley. She volunteered at her children's schools and with the Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
Dorothy was a licensed Cosmetologist. She loved the arts, and encouraged her children to draw, paint, and play musical instruments.
Dottie loved to read. She loved soap operas along with science fiction shows like The Twilight Zone. Her interests were varied; Asian cooking, desserts, collecting art and jewelry, and the cabin in Angel Fire. The cabin was her retreat for many years, until the drive was no longer possible.
Dottie was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Zane Bruce, a former Guymon resident. She is survived by her daughter Debra, son Bruce, daughter-in-law Chris, and grandchildren Scott and Colleen.
Graveside services will be Tuesday morning, June 11th at 11:00 am at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon.
Rest in Peace.
