Donald Lee Fischer, 87, lifelong area resident passed away Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

The son of Louis Frederick and Ruth Fern (Finfrock) Fischer, Don was born May 17, 1930 at the family home west of Hooker, Oklahoma. This is where he spent his early years, before the family moved to Liberal and then Manhattan, KS for a time due to the Dust Bowl. They returned to Hooker in 1942 and Don attended the Hooker schools, graduating with the HHS Class of 1948. He attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell for a year before joining the U.S. Navy in January 1949. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Hooker.

Don was married to Marjorie Lou Hickox on December 25, 1950 in Hooker and they made their home west of Hooker just two miles from where he grew up. Two children were born to this union LuAnn and Kent. Marjorie preceded him in death on September 7, 1975.

Don and Wanda Gail (Alfson) Brown were married on January 14, 1978. They shared many wonderful years of traveling by RV and making many special friends all over the U.S. Don had been blessed and was able to share those blessings with others. He was an avid supporter of the Oaks of Mamre, Loaves and Fishes, Panhandle State University, the Heritage Community Assisted Living Center, where he and Wanda were honored with having a wing named after them. There is also a home at the Baptist Boy's Ranch in Edmond that houses 8 young men because of their generosity. Don was also instrumental in getting the fund established to build the new municipal pool in Hooker, which holds the name of his late daughter.

After high school Don and his brothers, Norman and Allan formed Fischer Bros., where they farmed for many years. Don also was a sales representative for Noble Implements for several years. Don was always a strong advocate and promoter of the Oklahoma Panhandle and its history. He was a proud, lifetime member of the No Man's Land Historical Society. Don was also a pilot and member of the Oklahoma Flying Farmers.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, LuAnn Fischer-Miller in 1992 and two brothers: Allan and Norman Fischer.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Fischer of the home; one son, A. Kent Fischer of Oklahoma City; step-son, Phil Brown and wife, Dianna of Guymon; step-daughter, Jacque and husband, Bill Egger of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren: Leslie Bross of Lawrence, KS and Craig Bross and wife, Carolina of San Diego, CA and their daughter, Jade; sisters-in-law: Carolyn Fischer of Hooker and Ruth Fox Fischer of Weatherford, TX; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday afternoon, August 24th at 2:00 p.m. at the Hooker United Methodist Church with Don's friend, Pastor Tom Freeman officiating. Interment will follow at the Hooker Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
