Dewey Ray Holland, 74, of Kenton, OK, passed away Sept 4, 2023, at BSA Hospital in Amarillo, TX, surrounded by his loving family.

The youngest of 5 children, Dewey was born in Spearman, TX on Oct 13, 1948, to Addis "Pokey" and Ruth (Lapp) Holland.

Dewey married Sherri Guymon on Aug 16, 1969, and through their 27-year marriage, they raised three children: Tandi Lynette, born Aug 19, 1972; Ty Clayton, born Apr 14, 1977; and Tanna Lyndsay, born Feb 25, 1985.

Dewey was a gifted teacher and coach, who impacted the lives of countless students during his 26-year career. His dream was to move to Kenton when he retired, and in 2011, he did just that. But teaching history was in his blood, and it was soon apparent that he had merely found a new classroom. As the Curator and President of the Kenton Museum, he made the area history come alive as he led people from all walks of life on tours of, not only the museum, but the area he was proud to call home. When he wasn't teaching, he was serving and meeting needs in the community. For the past 12 years, summer in Kenton, was synonymous with Dewey on his mower, making sure the town always looked nice.

Dewey loved sports and games of all kinds, from basketball, to ping pong, to dominoes, and everything in between. If it involved keeping score, he was in! He was passionate about politics and current events.  Coupled with his love of competition, he took great pleasure in finding someone who disagreed with him, engaging them in a "debate" that would invariably make everyone uncomfortable. But as soon as the dust settled, he would gladly give that same person the shirt off his back if they needed it. Dewey truly lived a life of service to others, teaching by example, what would be his greatest lesson. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, faith, family, and service, that will endure long past his earthly life.

Dewey is preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and "Pokey" Holland; daughter, Tanna Holland; brother, Lynn Holland, Sr; brother, Jesse Holland; his "bonus parents," Jack and Lane Guymon; brother-in-law and best friend, Tony Guymon; and sister-in-law, Cindy Moore.

Dewey is survived by brother, Anthony Holland, of Manassa, CO; sister, Mary Jane Duncan of Belmont, NC; daughter, Tandi and husband Troy Christie of Guymon, OK; son, Ty Holland of Kenton, OK and Amanda Holland of Greeley, CO; ex-wife, Sherri Guymon of Guymon, OK; brother-in-law, Shane Guymon of Guymon, OK; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a host of beloved family and friends. He is also survived by his "other child," a very spoiled cat named Weezer III.

A celebration of Dewey's life will be held on Saturday, Sept 30, 2023, at 10:00am Mountain/11:00am Central, at the Kenton Community Center in Kenton, OK. Following the celebration, the family would like to invite everyone to stay for a reception with finger foods.
