Darlene Wale, 87, of Guymon, passed away Monday evening, June 22, 2020 at the Wheatridge Park Care Center in Liberal, Kansas.
The daughter of Charles Edward and Mildred Marie (Steinkuehler) Lee, Leah Darlene was born February 17, 1933 in Guymon, Oklahoma. She attended the Guymon school system.
Darlene was united in marriage to Richard H. Wale on December 25, 1949 in Clayton, New Mexico. They had lived in Guymon, Escondido, California, Safford, Arizona and Sentinel, Oklahoma, before returning to Guymon in 2008. Richard preceded her in death on July 4, 2014.
Darlene was a member of the Guymon First Baptist Church, the Red Hat Society and was a talented artist working with oil paints. She also enjoyed teaching others art. She had worked for the OK Dept. of Education in Guymon and Oklahoma City.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her two sons: Steve Wale on March 10, 2008 and Rick Wale on February 12, 2020; and one brother, Charles Elbert "Chuck" Lee.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Sharlene Wale of Guymon; two grandsons: Kevin Wale of Guymon and Keith Burden of Oklahoma City; two granddaughters: Michelle Greenhaw of Owasso and Sidnie Wale of Norman; three great grandchildren: Serenity Foster, Jimmy Lehman and Jada Greenhaw; her sister-in-law, Ann Young of Juno Beach, Florida; niece, Cindy (Steve) Schneider of McGregor, TX and Mike (Annabelle) Lee of Tequesta, Florida.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon, June 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Rev. Michael Carter, pastor of the Guymon First Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening, June 25th from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorials in Darlene's name can be made to the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center. Memorials will be accepted at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942. Friends can sign the online guest book and leave condolences at www.bunchroberts.com.
