Carolyn Faye (Grice) Blackwelder was born October 15, 1952 in Guymon to Gordon and Lavon (Forbes) Grice of Goodwell, Oklahoma. She grew up north of Goodwell and attended school in Goodwell until the 9th grade and then attended Guymon High School, graduating with the Class of 1970. Carolyn was active in many things growing up, including being the Pioneer Day Rodeo Queen in 1969.
At a Baptist church camp south of Oklahoma City, she met Albert Blackwelder from Hooker whom she later married, and the couple had four children: Bettina, Bart, Ben, and Jacob, 19 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren.
Carolyn enjoyed reading and listening to the Bible, sewing, genealogy research, and books. She was a bus driver for Hooker Schools for many years and her most recent profession was serving as the Librarian at the Olive Warner Library in Hooker for almost 20 years. She loved her books and really enjoyed helping people find just the right book.
She loved her family and cherished her lifelong friends. She loved Jesus and was always trying to point her family and friends to her savior Jesus Christ. She was a long standing member of FBC Hooker.
Carolyn went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 15, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of over 50 years, Albert; her daughter, Bettina (Blackwelder) Bryant; and two brothers: Rance and David Grice.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, three sons: Bart and Irene Blackwelder, Ben and Kelly Blackwelder and Jacob and Katie Blackwelder; her cherished grandchildren: Jennifer, Caitlyn, Jherika, Cassandra, Thomas, Bethany, Kyler, Kolby, Korban, Rusty, Justin, Coy, Achlee, Awestynne, Andrew, Adeline, Averi, Adian and Alijah; and great grandchildren: Kaeson, Deklan, Lennon, Nikoli, Adrian, Alivia, Xzavian, Jhett, Bentlee, Jaxson, Justin, Weston, Konor, Karson, Kassidy, Montan, Maximus, Kinzie, Kolt, Kaden, Kali, Karter, Noah, Samuel, Oliver, Sterling, Berkley, Jackson, Emmalynne, Jaymison, Sadie and 4 rainbow babies. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Gloria Grice; numerous nieces and nephews; many cousins and a host of friends.
The family will greet friends at the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home on Saturday evening, May 18th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A celebration of Carolyn's life will be conducted Sunday afternoon, May 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Hooker First Baptist Church in Hooker. Burial will follow at the Hooker Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Carolyn may be given to Olive Warner Library or the Hooker Cemetery Fund. Memorials will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
