Bruce Costner, 49, longtime Guymon resident was welcomed into Heaven on Friday morning, August 18, 2017 at the BSA Hospice of the Southwest in Amarillo, Texas following a lengthy, but courageous battle against cancer.
The son of James Olen and Myrtle Marie (Brune) Costner, Bruce Wayne was born May 27, 1968 in Guymon, Oklahoma. Bruce grew up in Guymon, where he attended the Guymon school system, graduating with the GHS Class of 1986. While in school, Bruce was actively involved in playing football for the Guymon Tigers. Following high school, he attended Panhandle State University where he continued playing football for 2 1/2 years.
Bruce had worked for BASCO and Panhandle Construction and then began working for Best Well Service and later Key Energy as a rig operator, until his health wouldn't allow. In 1991, Bruce moved to Brush, CO and then to Ft. Morgan, Co before returning to Guymon in 1995. He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed working in his yard. He also had a great love for watching football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and the Oklahoma Sooners and was known to do a little trash talking after victories among rivals.
Bruce and Melissa Ann Martin were married on July 24, 2005 and then remarried on July 7, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Guymon.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Mary Brune; paternal grandparents, John and Peggy Costner; an uncle, Darrel Brune and his in-laws, Johnnie and Glenda Tracy.
Survivors include his loving wife, Melissa Martin-Costner of the home; his parents, Jim and Myrtle Costner of Guymon; his daughter, Talisha and husband, Tyson Coleman of Guymon; his son, Tyler Costner of Guymon; one brother, Brian Costner and wife, Mary of Beaver, OK; sister-in-law, Gwen Martin and Julian Vargas of Blue Springs, MO; brother-in-law, Roy Tracy and wife, LaRhonda of East Moline, IL; nieces and nephews: Tristan and Larry Pell of Beaver, Tiffany Costner & Tyrel Taton of Beaver, Dusty & Stephenie Hudson, Jonni Noble, and Alex James all of Blue Springs, and Dylan Tracy and Tiffany Tracy of Guymon; great niece and nephews: Luke, Zachery, Lucy and Sebastian; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and other family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, August 22nd at 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Wescoatt officiating. Interment will follow at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon. Services are under the care of the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Bruce's name will be accepted at the Bunch - Roberts Funeral Home to help with expenses, PO Box 1112, Guymon, OK 73942.
