LaVerda Rose "Birdie" Hayworth, 92, longtime Guymon resident passed away Friday evening, June 12, 2026 at the Memorial Hospital of Texas County in Guymon.
The daughter of Rufus and Maude (Tally) Deen, she was born February 11, 1934 in Barnsdall, Osage Co., Oklahoma. Birdie was raised in Barnsdall, graduating from Barnsdall High School with the Class of 1952.
Birdie married and had four children, moving to Guymon in 1965 from the Felt, Oklahoma community. She and Jerry Hayworth were married on April 26, 1983 in Stratford, Texas. Jerry preceded her in death on October 8, 2020.
Birdie worked as a bus driver and in the cafeteria for Guymon schools. She then worked as a Dietary Supervisor with the Dunaway Manor for 26 years before working for Memorial Hospital and then for Optima Schools where she loved making homemade food for her students. She was a past member of the Texas County Sheriff's Posse and active member of the First Christian Church of Guymon, where she had served on the board. She was a woman of strong faith and enjoyed her daily devotionals and reading her Bible.
Birdie was a huge sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Sooners and the Thunder play. Birdie was also an active supporter of the Guymon Tigers and could often be found in the ticket booth selling tickets well after her retirement. She was known for her fun personality and didn't know a stranger. In her quiet time, she enjoyed feeding the birds and listening to them sing.
In addition to her husband, Jerry she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters: Susie "Scat" DeWeese and Vera Gowan; son-in-law, Don Campbell and a nephew and niece.
Survivors include her four children: Trisha Campbell of Guymon, Robert Yocham and partner, Tom Nieters of Oklahoma City, Rip Yocham of Enid and Paula Krier and husband, Greg of Guymon; a niece/bonus daughter, Janell and husband, Rick Anthony of Avant, Oklahoma; four granddaughters: Tesha Halonen of Guymon, Megan & Kelly Vess of Snyder, Texas, Kaitlin & Nick Anderson of Enid and Emily & Dylan Anderson of Oklahoma City; ten great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren with three more expected soon. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.
At Birdie's request no service will be held. There will be a private family burial at the Ethel Reece Cemetery in Barnsdall at a later date.
