Billy Joe Brewer, 87, longtime panhandle resident, passed away Friday evening, April 14th, 2017 at his home in Optima.
The son of Malcolm Lee and Zella Leola (Godfrey) Brewer, he was born September 22, 1929 in Mayfield, Oklahoma. Billy Joe attended school in Bulo, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Liberal VFW. He served in the United States Army receiving the Korean Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars.
Billy Joe was married to Vivian Helene Cothron on July 19, 1953 in Clayton, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on August 10, 2013.
He had moved from Mayfield to the Oklahoma Panhandle in 1942, and owned and operated BJ Roustabout Service a dirt contracting business.
Preceding him in death are his parents, his wife, Vivian Helene, son, Malcolm; daughter, Trisha Ann and two brothers, Earl and Howard Brewer.
Survivors include one son, Joe Daniel Brewer of Optima; one daughter, Kathleen Hanson of Lawton, Oklahoma; six grandchildren: Jesse and Deven Brewer, Nick Carlile, Lana Carlile, Deanna Brewer and Camille Sandoval. Survivors also include two sisters, Ray Blades of Idaho and Dessi Blades of Hooker.
Graveside services will be Monday afternoon, April 17th at 2:00 p.m. at the Elmhurst Cemetery in Guymon with Rev. Odie Nunley officiating. Services are under the care of the Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
