Billie Sherman Dawes, 89, longtime Guymon resident, passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 14, 2024 at his home.

The son of Loyd and Ola Edith (Dick) Dawes, he was born December 18, 1934 in Chelsea, Oklahoma.  Bill attended school in Chelsea, graduating with the Class of 1954.  He served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958.

Bill and Vonie Strate were united in marriage on June 5, 1965 at the Nazarene Church in Guymon.

Bill was a retired tool and die machinist with Adams Hardfacing-Alamo Group, as well as being a retired volunteer fire fighter with 23 years of dedicated service to his community.  He was a member and served as deacon with the Free Will Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Ola Dawes, two sisters, Jane and JoAnn, two brothers, Johnny and Art and his first wife, Barbara Ann Russ in 1963.

Survivors include his wife, Vonalene of the home; two sons, Matthew Dawes and wife, Brenda of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Douglas Dawes of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; five grandchildren: Emma, Mary, Ava, Emmitt and Logan; two great grandchildren, Aspen and Scout, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday afternoon, May 18th at 2:00 p.m. at the Free Will Baptist Church with Pastor Stacy Ross officiating.  Interment with military honors will follow in the Elmhurst Cemetery.

Memorials in memory of Bill may be given to the Free Will Baptist Church.  Memorials will be accepted at Bunch – Roberts Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1112, Guymon, Oklahoma 73942.
