Betty Joy McCutchen went to her long awaited home in Heaven Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Heritage Community in Guymon, Oklahoma at the age of 86.
Betty was born to Effie Lena Stanley and M.J. Stanley in Clovis, New Mexico on May 30, 1930. Her early years were spent in Dodson, Texas. She graduated from Dodson High School.
She married the tall, dark, handsome love of her life for over 68 yrs. on December 24, 1948, Herman McCutchen. To this union was born four children: Jenna, Joann, Roland, and Deann.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her church family at First Baptist Church in Guymon where she enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching children's Sunday School classes. She was a Bible scholar and studied God's Word daily. Her Bible is marked with many passages from which she gave Godly council to her children. God's Word was always a great source of joy, peace, comfort, and guidance.
In 1968, she was able to begin fulfilling a dream to become a teacher. She worked hard and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in 1972. In 1973, at the age of 43 she began her teaching career in the Guymon Schools. She retired in 1993.
After retirement, Betty and Herman spent their time visiting grandchildren, taking many trips to Branson, and a 'trip of a lifetime' to Hawaii in 2008.
She was preceded in death by a son, Roland Herman McCutchen in 1972; her mother, Effie Stanley; brother, Harold Stanley; sister, Peggy Howard; sister, Marie Getman, and father, M.J. Stanley.
She is survived by her husband of 68 yrs. Herman McCutchen of Guymon, three daughters: Jenna Conner and husband Bob of Tuttle, Oklahoma, Joann Andrews and husband Randy of Guymon, and Deann McCutchen of Guymon. Grandchildren: Joy Millican, of Oklahoma City, Jean Florea and husband Michael of Oklahoma City, Amy Mason of Oklahoma City, Ryan Andrews and wife Ashley of Edmond, and Matthew Andrews and wife Jamie of Stillwater. Great grand children: Chelsea Tran of Oklahoma City, Derek McGuire of Blanchard, Madison McGuire of Pauls Valley, Peyton and Gillian Andrews and Laird Williams of Edmond, Lauren Mason of Oklahoma City, Bryan Mason and Bradley Mason of Blanchard, Mattie and Cade Andrews of Stillwater, Sierra, ReubenIV and Taylor Green all of Oklahoma City; great-great grandchildren: Blakeleigh McGuire and Kamryn Mason.
A Celebration of Life will be held Monday afternoon, May 8th at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Guymon officiated by Rev. Michael Carter. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
