Obituary

Beatriz Guerra, 87, fifty-year resident of Guymon passed away Friday morning, April 14, 2023 in Arlington Texas surrounded by her loving family.

The daughter of Jose Maria Gonzales and Maria Ochoa, she was born July 29, 1935 in Nonoava, Chihuahua, Mexico. Beatriz and Simon Guerra were united in marriage on February 11, 1956 in Santa Ana, Chihuahua, Mexico. As a bride, Beatriz traveled from Mexico to a new life with her husband (Simon).

In 1968 they moved to Guymon, OK. Beatriz had a deeply rooted faith that took her to live her first Catholic Cursillo retreat in Hereford, TX 1971. She soon convinced Simon to attend his first Catholic Cursillo retreat in 1972. These Cursillo's started their path to Simon becoming ordained permanent Catholic Deacon (1983) and both being very active with his ministry as well as in the Cursillo movement (Cursillo's and Ultrias) from 1971 - 2006. She also was part of a unique Mexican-American Catholic women's group called Guadalupana's whom provide leadership in social concerns and perform works of charity.

Her other love, filling her home with family and friends. Renowned for her old-fashion cooking skills, she filled her kitchen with aromas of freshly made tortillas, pot of beans, green and red chili, and so many other traditional Mexican dishes. Ready to feed an army for when family and friends stopped by unexpectedly. She had a special social butterfly magnetism – a pot of coffee and cookies were waiting for when friends dropped by. In her later years she was always reaching out by phone to family and friends to say "Hello" or "Happy Birthday". Many of her friends (her age) could not remember to stay in touch but she never skipped a beat in calling them to find out "how they were". She lived for her faith and family. Teaching us by example with prayer, faith, and courage to live in God's grace. A beautiful gentle soul whom was an inspiration to all who knew her. Beatriz leaves a legacy of friendship, loyalty, and love. A courageous spirit that will be profoundly missed.

Beatriz is preceded in death by her parents, one son, Peter Paul Guerra and her loving husband, Simon Guerra.

She is survived by five children: Mary England and husband, Larry of Arlington, TX, Louis Guerra and wife, Kim of Guymon, James Guerra and wife, Darla of Little Elm, Tx, Joe Guerra and partner, Donna Havens of Arlington, TX, and Lupe Guerra of Arlington, TX. Survivors also include seven grandchildren: Ashley Trotter, Sydni Maurer, Olivia Guerra Kincade, Peter Joseph Guerra, Delaynee Marie Guerra, Jaidyn Guerra, and Chris Havens; three great grandchildren, Braydon Trotter, Hope Arila Sofia Maurer, and Samuel Maurer, and one sister, Alicia Chavaria.
